Our History

Pride of Alsen was first formed and chartered six months before Alsen Pride, after petitioning Grand Master John G. Lewis Jr. to become Prince Hall-affiliated Free & Accepted Masons, having previously been Ancient Free & Accepted Masons.

February 2, 1946: Lodge Chartered

Grand Master John G. Lewis Jr. appointed Lafayette Robinson as the first Worshipful Master of Alsen Pride on February 2, 1946 — established as a beacon in Alsen, Louisiana, serving East Baton Rouge Parish.

1949–1998: Charter Dormant

The Alsen Pride charter was defunct under Grand Master John G. Lewis Jr.. Institutional knowledge and the charter were preserved by the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Louisiana.

1998: Reorganization

Grand Master Ralph Slaughter reorganized Alsen Pride Lodge No. 253 with the assistance of Twilight Lodge No. 166. The nine transferring brothers were Bernard Brown, Donn Taylor, Byron Gray Sr., Terrance Davis, Eric Jones, Clifton Stanford, Errol Taylor, Leon Murray, and Charles Battles Jr. — a renewed commitment to growth and visible service.

2020–Present: Modern Growth

Membership expansion among young professionals. Implementation of the Project Silk & Silhouette youth program. Strong community partnerships across Baton Rouge, with a continued focus on mentorship and character development as our core mission.
